    West Coast Avengers # 42: "One of Our Androids is Missing!"

    Synopsis:
    The Vision goes missing, but before the West Coast Avengers can start a search they're attacked by Ultron. They defeat Ultron only to learn that the robot wasn't the real Ultron. The WCA discover that their security has been breached and Mockingbird makes a sudden return.

    Jay's Notes:

    • Part one of Visionquest.
    • Retells the origin of the original Human Torch and Vision.
    • Byrne needs a lesson in physics: "The odds against an arrow in flight suddenly losing all forward momentum are one in a million." Hmm. Try zero. Maybe the change of Hawkeye missing his target would be one in a million.

    West Coast Avengers # 43: "Vision Quest"

    Synopsis: 
    Mockingbird admits to having helped in the Vision's abduction, but explains that she had been fooled by an mysterious organization posing as S.H.I.E.L.D. She provided them with the inside information needed to compromise the compound's security, but began to suspect their true intentions and was captured. She escaped believing that it was in fact the KGB, who were worried about the Vision's recent attempt to take over the world's computers. The Avengers investigate the complex in which Mockingbird was imprisoned, and they break in and find the Vision has been completely taken apart.

    West Coast Avengers # 44: "Better a Widow"

    Synopsis:
    The WCA discover that the operation to negate the threat of the Vision was a joint international effort. Professor Horton, who created the Human Torch whose android body was believed to be used by Ultron to create the Vision,  explains that the Vision's body is in fact not his work. The Avengers return to their compound where the nanny gives the Scarlet Witch a scare about her children being missing, but they're fine. Pym rebuilds the Vision, but his memory and personality are gone. The USAgent shows up on the Avengers' doorstep.

    June 1989
    West Coast Avengers # 45: "New Faces"

    Synopsis:
    The US government forces USAgent onto the Avengers' active roster despite the complaints of the team. Hawkeye has had enough and walks out, with Mockingbird following him. Tigra's animal side seems to be taking more and more of a control over her. Pym finishes reprograming the Vision, but he doesn't have any emotions or personality. Wonder Man refuses to let Pym use his brain patterns again as the basis of the Vision's personality, much to Wanda's dismay.

    Synopsis: 
    A bank robber is foiled by a rag-tag gang of heroes calling themselves the Great Lakes Avengers. Hawkeye and Mockingbird begin reconstructing their marriage. They check up on the Great Lakes Avengers and are encouraged by their abilities and enthusiasm and see potential in them.

    August 1989
    West Coast Avengers # 47: "With Friends Like These"

    Synopsis:
    Wonder Man realizes that now with the Vision out of the picture, he's in love with the Scarlet Witch (after all the Vision had his brain patterns). However, if he lets Pym uses his brain patterns to restore the Vision, he'll lose any chance of winning the heart of the Scarlet Witch. The Scarlet Witch decides to take the Vision matter into her own hands and pays a visit to Saunders College and the mysterious Mr. Random. However, Random is only interested in the Scarlet Witch.

    September 1989
    West Coast Avengers # 48: "This Ancient Evil"

    Synopsis:
    Captain America and She-Hulk investigate the destruction of the quinjet used by the Scarlet Witch. They're given a tour of Saunders college. Unfortunately, they come up against a brain-washed Scarlet Witch who defeats them both. Meanwhile, the rest of the team visits Professor Horten as they try and get to the bottom of Vision's true origins.

    October 1989
    West Coast Avengers # 49: "Baptism of Fire!"

    Synopsis: 
    Tigra's animal transformation takes a stronger hold, but Pym captures her and begins to treat her. Meanwhile, the rest of the team attack Saunders college and free the captured Avengers. As it turned out, an alien collective entity called That Which Endures, was behind the Scarlet Witch's capture.

    November 1989
    West Coast Avengers # 50: "Return of the Hero"

    Synopsis: 
    The wife of the late hero Toro, the sidekick of the original Human Torch, convinces the Avengers to keep looking for the body of the original Human Torch. They locate the gave the Human Torch was buried in and the Scarlet Witch uses her hex powers to bring him back to life. Pym finally figures out that Ultron must have used the Human Torch's mold and chemical blueprints to create the Vision. They offer the Human Torch membership with the Avengers and he joins them happily. Iron Man returns to the ranks of the Avengers.
